Birthday Festivities

I love birthdays. Especially, my own. I still want a party every year, but my family decided to quit throwing them for me, because it was getting a little out of control. So, now we just do dinner, but I still invite everybody and it ends up becoming a birthday party at a restaurant. This year I get two birthdays. Well, sorta. My own, which already passed and my lil' baby's. If you would've told me a lil' over a year ago that I'd be making headbands for a living, I would've laughed in your face and said "you're crazy!". Surprises and the unexpected are sometimes alot of fun. Sometimes. It's amazing how Dainty Button started off as this...

(It was cute at the time)

(I still have a giant banner of this.)

And this?....

(I am truly sorry if you bought this.)

Looking at these pictures, I find myself commenting. "What was I thinking?", "Eww, did I really make that?", "I can see glue", "WOW".

Safe to say, I've come quite a long way. I've learned so much. Good and bad. Starting a business is never easy. There is so much work involved and I had to learn Business 101 very quickly. I barely knew how to keep track of my own checkbook. My accountant loves me! Ha! My idea of keeping receipts, is sticking them in my wallet, and when it's too full, stick them in a bag.

What can I say? It's been such a ride. A fun, stressful, exhausting and totally worth it ride!

I've asked myself so many times, "Charity, what are you doing? You have a teaching degree. You're slaving away making headbands, for pete's sake! You've lost it.". But I also see all of the free time I have with my family. The time I now have to give to other things, because well, I work for myself. And yes, making headbands for a living is not the "safest" route when you take in the fact of "security", but it sure is fun! And it's what makes me happy.

So, thank you! Thank you for making a dream of mine come true. Thank you for your support and rooting for my lil' business. And as a "thank you" from me, to you, you're invited to Dainty Button's Birthday Celebration!

  9. Its amazing to see how far you've come in just one year! Your designs have evolved beautifully and I'm very excited to see what your style evolves into in he future. After reading your story and seeing your designs you can see how you've grown both as a person and as a designer. Its is clear that you take a lot of time and care in your work and it is greatly appreciated. You can see ur personal growth through your work and makes me feel like you give a little piece of yourself with each design which makes me appreciate it more! Love what you've done! Keep up the good work!

  10. Hahah! I so thought of myself when I read the part about your birthday!!! Mine is December 6th and I celebrate around Thanksgiving (counting down) until practically Christmas time hehe =) I just love it!!!! No parties here either, but my family is great at making me feel important <3 Happy Birthday your business, improvement shows you are going some where, if there were no "uglys" and then "prettys" what would be the point??? LOL!!!

  11. I bought a basic black flower from you as my first purchase in your beginning days haha. I started out just buying a big black flower as a 1.) something to buy online and 2.) being supportive of a new christian business. Then here I am a year later still buying but in larger quantities and loving all your unique stuff! Keep up the great work! Happy 1st Bday DB!

  12. I love your wraps and it's always nice to support a "home" business rather than buying something from Target that a million other people may have and that just supports a corporation. Glad to see DB turn one!
