black and white by Dainty Button

Well, it's finally here. A Boy's and Men's Line from Dainty Button. I am beyond excited about this, but also very nervous about this. When I first began Dainty Button everybody asked me "Where's the guys stuff?". I have been asked this over and over and over. Well, to be honest I was and still am a little scared to touch "guy's stuff". I have a teenage brother and my dad is a preacher. They both live in suits. They both are worse than women, to a degree. They're very picky about their appearance, clothes, ties, shoes, you name it. And most of my guy friends, boyfriends in the past and male relatives, as well. So, that being said, I have been extremely careful on how to approach the "guy stuff" in fashion. I don't deal with men's fashion on a daily basis, so choosing which route to take this lil' line has been tedious, stressful and at times finding myself just saying "this isn't worth it". I also have OCD and like things to be "perfect". I've been cautious about expanding to the "men's world" of fashion because truthfully, I don't want to design something that you as a man, or mom of a young boy could go pick up at your local department store, Nordstrom Rack or Marshall's. It doesn't make much sense to me. But, as I've learned this past year, you won't know until you try it, and so here goes me trying : )

A problem I have ran into is "time". How will I have time for a men's line, in addition to everything else on my plate? Until I partnered with my very dear friend, Deana, who is an unbelievably talented seamstress. We put our heads together and have created a line that boys and men of all ages will benefit from. I'm not a mom, but my little (well, not so little anymore) brother is 9 years younger than me. I remember as a teenager, my mom had the worst time trying to find cool ties for him, that weren't cheesy looking. I see a trend with the younger generation and hear my brother's friends complain about finding "cool" stuff at a reasonable price. So, I took all of this into consideration when I sat down almost a year ago and started brainstorming. I told you I was OCD, hence the reason it's taken me this long.

This blog will not reveal what I'm introducing on Monday, March 14th. I want this to be a surprise for many reasons, on a professional and personal standpoint. Suspense is good : ) But, I will give you a few helpful hints, on what to expect from this line...

Versatile:

Every man, especially younger boys, need something that's versatile and can go with many different things. But, at the same time, different and unique.

Trendy, Unique, Urban:

I've lived in San Francisco for 14 years, where unique is an understatement. We take the laidback, more urban approach to dress. I threw this in the mix. I also have a little bit of midwest still in my "thinkin'", growing up in Oklahoma to know that there is such a thing as "the suburbs", and therefore I've mixed some "traditional" in with this line.

Easy on the wallet:

Mom's don't like spending an arm and a leg on clothes for their lil' guys, because they might get a few "wears" out of it. Young guys, especially students, don't have alot of extra spending money, except "trust fund" babies, and well, I don't know many of those. Men, well, their wives, children or significant others get all of their money, so they're on a "budget", so to speak. Ha! And honestly, who really likes spending a fortune on clothes? Not me. And so this line, will be easy on your pocket book : )

Moment of Honesty:

I am part of the younger generation, and I understand the need to want to dress trendy and stylish. I have created this men's line with the younger generation in mind. There will be more "traditional" pieces, but 80% of this line will be aimed to please the younger generation. BUT, this will not be the case for long. Playing it more on the safe side, as I take "baby steps" with this expansion, I'll be introducing a select line, in which I will expand black and white by Dainty Button, as needed. So, hang tight : )
